The dangers of Dropshipping

Dropshipping has arrived in Portugal and is here to stay.

.

After a few years with intermittent orders, in 2020 we feel that dropshipping has definitely arrived and every day we have more orders for unit jobs.

But is this a good strategy?

.

We fully understand why clients want to do jobs on a one-off basis. Less financial risk, less chance of stock "hanging".

But this is not a risk-free method. And the greatest risk is - in our humble opinion - precisely that which is touted as the advantage; the least risk.

Life is made up of risk. If you don't take risks, you won't hold on to anything. If we don't take risks, we won't find ourselves without a carpet under our feet and we won't be forced to fight.

.

As soon as we don't take any risks with a brand of clothing, what is it that holds us to it? If we don't know that we'll be forced to sell in order to recoup our investment, will we really fight for the project's success or will we give up much more quickly?

.

What we've seen in recent months is that there are quite a few dropshipping clothing brand projects that want to get off the ground but never do. And that projects with stock tend to have more sales and reprints in a short space of time.

.

Why? Precisely as described above.

Anyone who has risked 300/500€ on a stock of clothes knows that they need to sell them. He knows that he's an entrepreneur and that he has to move forward because otherwise he'll lose his money.

Those who - on the other hand - have absolutely nothing to lose won't do what they would have done if they had actually invested something. Precisely because there is absolutely nothing at risk. Keep your life comfortable and if you sell, fine. But he won't take the business seriously because nothing depends on sales.

.

.

This is as true of the creation of a clothing brand as it is of anything else in life. If we don't risk it.... what do we have to gain? Zero.

It's food for thought 🙂
