Producing advertising gifts is literally in our "blood" and it shows with our decorated pins.
We love producing advertising gifts, particularly decorated pins, and it's surely no coincidence that we're market leaders in this area, don't you think? Why?
Because not only do we put the desired images on badges of various sizes, we also work with magnets, mirrors and bottle openers, and of course, we always ensure the best value for money on the market, because that's what Maudlin Merchandise stands for!
But before we get into more technical aspects and details, how about a bit of history about where and when pins, or badges, as you like to call them, first appeared? Does that sound like a good idea? Let's get down to it.
.
A bit of history about the history of pins throughout history.
Nowadays, pins, badges or whatever you want to call them, are literally everywhere (on bikers' jackets, on anime or manga lovers' backpacks, on aprons and uniforms, and the list goes on and on).
.
But its function and potential go far beyond that. Why?
Because the political class quickly identified them as an object with the potential to transmit information about the person using it, in other words, so-called free and circulating propaganda! 😉
.
Its use as a symbol of political propaganda began during George Washington's election in 1978, followed by massive use in John Quincy Adams' Political Campaign in 1824, and later in the Presidential Campaign of 1860 with the use of images (the first patent for decorated pins), which allowed voters to see and wear photos of their favourite candidates, with names such as Abraham Lincoln.
.
However, everything was to change in 1892, when Whitehead and Hoag registered a patent for celluloid, which in essence was a high-quality compound for use in prints with more vibrant colours, allowing for a modernisation of the production process for decorated pins.
.
It became much cheaper to produce, as now in addition to using an image, it was possible to wrap it around a metal disc and cover it with celluloid, greatly extending its durability.
The "political" use was followed by examples such as disarmament protest marches in England in 1958, using decorated pins with the peace symbol that had been created that same year.
.
Later, rock bands took advantage of the potential of pins to get in touch with their fans, while earning extra income from selling them and free advertising, popularising the so-called 25mm mini-pin.
.
Then came the famous "smiley" pin, a logo designed by Harvey Ball in 1963 for the State Mutual Life Assurance Company. Only 100 were produced in the initial phase, reaching the status of a true cultural icon in 1972 when the phrase "Have a nice day" was associated with it, and it is estimated that more than 50 million were sold that year alone!
.
In the 60s and 70s, the general public started wearing decorated pins on jackets and jeans for pure fun and as a means of self-expression, many of them with irreverent messages.
Today, as in the past, many businesses are using decorated pins for branding and marketing purposes, as they have the power to arouse consumer interest very easily.
.
But enough history, don't you agree? So let's talk about more practical aspects!
