Why don't you want sublimated t-shirts?

Sublimation is a very interesting method of decorating clothes.

.

If you want to print T-shirts without a touch, sublimation is your best friend.

If you want to print T-shirts without a touch, sublimation is your best friend.

.

So why am I advising against this method of personalising clothes?

.

Well, sublimation isn't what it seems.

Firstly, it's an extremely limited method of making T-shirts. You see, you can only work with sublimation using white clothes. Full stop! You can't sublimate a black T-shirt, for example, it's impossible.

.

Polyester T-shirts

Sublimation works through a chemical reaction between the polyester and the ink (at very high temperatures). However, this reaction only occurs with white polyester. As soon as you use coloured polyester, the ink will fade and the darker the T-shirt or sweatshirt, the less you'll see of the print.

.

Secondly, sublimation clothing is always extremely thin. When we print clothes, we always recommend a minimum of 150 grams. For sublimation, most t-shirts are between 120 and 130 grams. They're very thin because the brands assume that you're going to do full-body decoration and that with the ink you end up "hiding" the transparency.

.

Thirdly, we're talking about polyester. Why, polyester is so uncomfortable! Wearing a 100 per cent polyester T-shirt is one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever done. I feel like I've put on a plastic bag, it's anything but natural. Our bodies garment natural fibres and we're wearing plastic.

.

Because it is a plastic fibre, it heats up too much. No one would have thought it, being so thin, but the truth is that in the heat these t-shirts become even more uncomfortable than they usually are. They stick to the body easily with perspiration and are a pain to wear.

.

.

In which cases do I recommend sublimation?

Simple, when there is no other option available. In other words, when you want to make T-shirts in low quantities with full body prints. And yet I can assure you that if there was another alternative, I'd take it.
